GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK

Reduce work related travel, telecommute; it saves money, time, and environmentally damaging emissions. Firms fear that telecommuting results in a lack of productivity but happy staff are generally more productive. Ensure employees have a quiet space from which to operate, appropriate tools and that the equipment they will be using is properly secured. Telecommuting employees require a different style of management, too -- based more on results rather than clocking in and out.

"Green Jargon"

  • CO2: chemical shorthand for carbon dioxide -- the greenhouse gas that is contributing greatly to global warming.
  • Carbon footprint: the amount of carbon dioxide emissions created by a person or industry.
  • Emissions: usually used in reference to exhaust or greenhouse gases or carbon dioxide production as a byproduct of human activity.
